So, tell me a little about yourself! Whats your name, where are you from, what age are you?
"My name is Emily I'm 21 and from Sydney Australia"
In your application you talked about how you've over come certain things in your life. So tell us about that! Whats your story?
"Of course! As a young girl I was very bubbly and full of life, I loved to dance early on and always had a big smile on my face but as I progressed throughout my schooling life I started to get severely bullied and from the young age of 9 till about 16 this caused me to feel anxious depressed and have low self esteem. My self confidence and social skills remained non-existent for quite some time and it wasn't until I started uni that I really started to find myself and work on my self love and self confidence. I started to bloom and slowly become more confident and who I was comma until I started the wrong type of guys into my life and my low self-esteem mixed with poor body image caused me to have depression again. I felt scared and devastated all over again but also felt determined to kick it so I could live a happy authentic and fulfilled life. I started working with my first life coach at the age of 18 and really got to tap in and do some deep healing inner work. Lost in the process of healing I also started writing for myself as it became my therapy. I decided to share these writings with my mum and my psychologists who I trusted and after many sessions they both admired how inspiring my writing was & suggested that I start sharing it with others Initially this pushed me outside of my comfort zone so I didn't act on it straight away however after some time went by something within me called me and said that this was part of my purpose and I had a bigger mission on this Earth to help serve and inspire others and so I decided to start my blog called shine in your light as a way to give back to my community and allow others to know that they are not alone I'm currently in the process of working on some exciting projects and this includes rebranding and making my blog bigger than what it already is so I have the opportunity to serve and inspire as many people as possible in different ways."
Thats awesome! When you went to university, what skills did you learn that helped you find yourself and what would you tell anyone else going through self esteem and body related issues?
"I started becoming involved in personal development and following like minded, inspiring thought leaders such as Louise Hay and Tony Robbins which really lit up my soul because I felt aligned to how they thought and acted and I just knew that my current or previous environment was keeping me small. I got involved in activities and projects that made me feel excited such as being apart of the leadership and mentor team. I would definitely tell anyone going through self esteem or body image issues to first of all resist the temptation to compare yourself to anyone else online or offline because this is only going to steal your joy and make you feel like you arent good enough. I would also say to start practicing mirror work and notice at least one thing everyday that makes you unique and value your own beauty Inside & out because all flowers look different on the outside and yet they are just as beautiful when you get closer to them. Comparison can be so easy when everyone's on social media looking at each other's highlight reels however it's important to notice and remember that your self worth or confidence shouldn't come from external validation. It doesn't stem from an Instagram like, comment or follow. Your true self worth will start building when the validation comes from you internally and know that it is about progress not perfection"
If someone told you five years ago that this is where you minded would be, would you believe them? Whats been the biggest change or impact for you in the last few years?
Honestly at the time no I wouldn't have and couldn't have pictured myself doing what I'm doing now annoying as much as I do. Growing up I never visualise to myself being in a position where I could serve and help others and make a big impact with my words my voice and my energy but I'm so humbled and grateful now that I do have this opportunity that's been gifted to me. I would say the biggest change or impact that's happened for me in the last few years has really been investing in myself, working with inspiring and motivating life coaches and mentors who have helped to guide me where I am today. In the last few years myself love has increased and my self worth as I started practicing deep healing in a work such as doing mirror, writing my story and beliefs, and getting clear on who I am and who I want to be. The way I viewed myself in society as well as in personal relationships has also changed and once I decided that I was worthy of attracting and creating an authentic abundant and fulfilling life that's when everything changed for me. Along the way I've received numerous tests from the universe to help me learn my lessons and Up level as a person so I come into alignment with what I desire."
Would you younger self be proud of who you are right now?
"That's an easy one to answer... she absolutley would! I can defintley say I know she would be extremely proud of how I've come especially in my self confidence, self love and my ability to be true to myself. I'm no longer living my life out of fear, anxiety and depression don't rule my life anymore and I no longer feel the need to explain myself to others or "fit in". I'm doing way more now than I ever set out to when I was a young girl and I'm very proud and grateful for that."
