What makes you happy in the morning? Coffee? Or tea? Adding healthy habits in the morning can improve your day in so many great ways. When you have a great morning, the rest of your day will truly be affected.
1. Make Your Favorite Preferred Drink
Recently, I started making matcha lattes. Matcha is high in antioxidants and gives you natural and sustainable energy. I am in love with matcha and I am a coffee person. I used to drink almond milk lattes almost every day and now I drink coffee about twice a week.
Matcha is a green tea powder I added to my routine due to the fact I was spending a lot of money on coffee, which made me crash in the middle of the day. Matcha gives me enough energy to do daily activities and it just makes me happier. Of course, I still love the taste and smell of coffee beans and espresso but for me, matcha is healthier and has so many benefits.
2. Show Gratitude
After you made your preferred drink, taking the time to write down what you're grateful for in your life. This can be anything. This will make you realize how we forget about the small things in life. Being grateful equals happiness.
You don’t need to take a chunk of your morning to do this simple task. You can write about what makes you grateful or you can simply speak it. Text your friends “good morning, I’m thankful to have you as a friend” or you comment on a friend's social media post “I love your style so much you inspire me.”
3. Create!
This might be my favorite tip. Being creative can release stress and take your mind on the countless things that are going on in the world. I recommend you do this every day even if it’s not technically morning. You can bake, write poetry, paint, or decorate your room. The list is endless. Go outside your comfort zone and take advantage of the recourses around you. Work on your project outside or take an adventure outside your home to be inspired to do any of these habits.
Recently, I’ve started back up reading in the mornings and before bed. I’ve been reading books related to self-care for black women and this amazing anthology named Well-Read Black Girl. There are about 21 authors featured with their stories and how they encountered books and how books represent black women. It’s definitely a good read.
I hope you can try out some of these habits to better your morning and your day. Also, these habits can be incorporated in your self-care routine because self-love is the best love!
